The Shell relationship with Kuwait extends to more than 70 years. We started out by trading Kuwaiti goods into the international market. We also signed a concession agreement in the offshore zone of Kuwait in the early 60s.

The Jurassic Gas ETSA was the first of this agreement to be signed. It allowed KOC to accelerate unlocking gas reserves and support roadmap to 950 million SCF per day.

The gas that comes from Jurassic is deep in the ground. It’s high temperature. It’s also sour, so it contains hydrogen sulphide which is a toxic gas which needs to be removed before we can export it.

In line with Kuwait’s national goal to generating 15% of its energy through renewable sources and to bring costs down, we’re introducing to KOC cleaner power generation through four main technologies. Wind, solar, heat recovery and steam.

Over the past few years, Shell has analysed concepts from around the world to bring the best possible conventional oil solution to Kuwait. One of those is the multi-well pad project which aims to drastically reduce congestion, increase cost savings, improve drilling and operational efficiencies.
